Little known Clay facts

(straight from the man himself)

01) Born at an early age to poor, but poverty stricken parents .......

02) No indoor plumbing but a cold water faucet til he was 8 years old.

03) Kept trying to return baby brother to hospital.(can someone tell me if they've been successful in this, I'd still like to try. Dangit, WHERE is that hospital receipt)

04) Was Jr. High & High School choirs accompanist at age 15.

05) Was nearly blinded at an early age when he fell and rammed a small tree branch through the upper portion of the lid of his left eye.

06) Didn't know til he was 8 that most people didn't have an outdoor toilet when they went vacationing because they had things called motels.

07) Wrote his first song at 15 for one of his old girlfriends.

08) Became church accompanist at age 15 for evening service.


09) Received superior ratings on all 4 of his solos for high school contest over a 4-year period.

10) Wanted to be a veteranarian rather than a musician until he was 14 and found out how much college cost for a vet.

11) Has an older brother, Danny, an older sister, Sharron, and a younger brother, Tim.

12) Graduated in the top ten % of his high school class from Nowata, OK (the class consisted of 85 people).

13) Went to Oral Roberts University for 3 semesters.

14) Was in 4 plays his Freshman year at ORU and was the second Frosh at ORU to be inducted into Alpha Psi Omega, the national honorary dramatic fraternity.

15) Actually changed his major from music to drama.

16) Dropped out of college from 1972 til 1976 because of illness and then got a job to cover the expenses of the illness.

17) Went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co in Bartlesville, OK in 1973 as a mail clerk.

18) Transferred to the Phillips Chemical facility in 1976 and began a 4 year stint of finishing his music degree at Gulf-Coast Bible College in Houston, TX (now Mid-America Christian University in OKC, OK).
